Documentary with ecological concerns registering practices on how the Cretan Open- Air Museum “Lychnostatis” operates and respects the environment. People that take part are Κostis Fragoulis and Yorgos Markakis. The film was presented at the National Festival of amateur documentary on the environment by ET-3 channel and at the 1^st documentary festival of Art & Technology of the Centre of Audiovisual Research the “Bakery” (1999).

ΤHE AROMA OF TRADITION

 

 

A film of 6 minutes that briefly presents the first generation of  the Museum’s educational programs 1996- 2002 and especially the educational programs “The aroma of Tradition”, “Artist without a name” and the “Rainbow of nature”. The film was presented at the National Seminar «Museum-School» (Kavala, 2002), as well as at the exhibition «Cultural games» (Athens-Thessaloniki, 2003) organized by the Ministry of Culture.

CARVING THE DARKNESS

The film observes the blind sculptor Petros Roukoutakis working at his atelier. At the same time, a dialogue begins with the Museum that organized the exhibition “Bright Darkness” in May 2005. Petros Roukoutakis was a painter until the age of 28. When he lost his sight due to pathogenic reasons, he became a sculptor using his inner vision and his hands as main tools, bringing to light representations and personal experiences from a life elsewhere.

THE CRETAN HOUSE IN 3 DIMENSIONS

A digital tour in the Cretan middle-class house and the farm-house, during the pre- industrial period, as they are represented in the folk collection of the Cretan Open- Air Museum “Lychnostatis”. It’s a Museum’s production (2006) that displays elements of the traditional life on 3D graphics.

BUILDING WITH STONES AND CRETAN RHYMES

 

Καθένα πράγμα μες στη ζωή ετούτη

μια μαντινάδα έχει και βγάλέ του την.

The film narrates the cronicle of the construction of the Cretan Open-Air Museum “LYCHNOSTATIS”. Using materials from the nature and the soul of Crete, the stone and the Cretan rhyme, a unique Museum was built, dedicated to Tradition, Nature and Cretan Art.

NOT ALL PLANTS DYE…

 

Εleni Anipsitaki - Daouraki, teacher, folklorist and founder of the Folklore Museum of Sitia, talks about dyeing, the technique of fast coloring of yarns with natural colors. In this short interview -the last she gave before her death in 2009- she culminates her donation to the Cretan open-air Museum "Lychnostatis". The Museum "Lychnostatis" has since then created in her memory and implemented the educational program "Colors & graces".

THE LIGHT INSIDE

Yiorgis Markakis, an 86 years old ophthalmologist and founder of the Cretan open-air Museum “Lychnostatis” in Hersonissos, Crete, reveals the treasures of his memory, “anything that he harvested with his eyes and has kept within him”.

Heartbreaks of experience end up with his quote about happiness “everything values in this world as much as you have loved it”.

BUTTERFLIES IN THE SKIES

 

In the short movie «Butterflies in the skies», well known academics, authors, singers and rhyme-creators speak about the creation process of the Cretan rhyme («mantinada») and its role in the intangible heritage of Crete.
